All eyes on standing panels now
MANGALORE : Close on the heels of the election of new mayor and deputy mayor, now all eyes are on the elections to the standing committees that are soon expected to be reconstituted. Already, it is said resentment is brewing within Congress corporators over the issue.
The main reason for this simmering discontentment is the complaint of a few that the loyalists of corporator Surekha Rai, also an aspirant for the post of mayor within the Congress, were now being sidelined when it came to standing committees. Now, it has also come to light that standing committee presidentships have even been promised to those who had backed Vijaya Arun during the internal elections for the post of mayor, held in the party and this in turn has now tunred to be a hot topic of debate in MCC circles.
Not only that, those who have already enjoyed standing committee presidentships are even reportedly threatening the party leaders that they would create hurdles and come in the way of the functioning of the committees if they were not given the presidentships of the same. On the other hand, it is believed that the new mayor would at least try to keep up her words to her fellow corporators, while some veteran corporators now feel that the resentment of a few who are aspiring for standing committee presidentships, would not yield them any result.
