Daylight robbery by Udupi rly stn auto drivers

From our Udupi office
UDUPI : Several complaints are being heard of late that the autorickshaw drivers near the Udupi railway station at Indrali are virtually fleecing outstation passengers who arrive by train.
There has been an increasing demand to the transport officials to consider this complaint seriously and initiate action against the guilty autorickshaw drivers.
Apart from this, it has even been gathered that some autorickshwaw drivers even misbehave with public . To cite an instance is the case of a person who kanded in Udupi station from Mumbai along with his family recently. This person narrated his bitter experience to this correspondent. The person who arrived at the station at 8 am on a Sunday along with his wife and two year old child, boarded an autorickshaw to go to Kalsanka along with the luggage. When asked the fare, the driver said he would say later on and when they reached the destination, the driver demanded Rs 80 only for the passenger to refuse. The infuriated driver drove the auto back to the station and left the family back. As if this is not suffice, he even asked his fellow drivers not to take the family to Kalsanka and even in case they do they should collect a fare not less than Rs 80.
The family later on after walking for a short distance boarded another autoricksahw to reach Kalsanka while the other driver charged just Rs 40.
Several who have been subject to such sort of harassment by the autorickshaw drivers have urged the authorities to intiate action against the guilty drivers and prevent them from resorting to daylight robbery.
