From our Udupi office
UDUPI : The Udupi district administration and TMC plans to set up the waste treatment plant of Udupi in Pragathinagar of Alevoor gram panchayat lkimits has been widely opposed by locals.
It has been learnt that the district administration and the TMC were now planning to set up the plant in the 22 acre lush green gomala land belonging to the revenue department. However, locals feel any attempt to set up the plant in the area would mean problems for those owning fields and agricultural lands in the vicinity. Recently, when the authorities had begun work in the area by bringing a JCB machinery, it was widely opposed by locals.
In the meantime it has been gathered that the Alevoor gram panchayat secretary, at the behest of the Udupi tahsildar has begun serving notices to those residing in the government land to vacate the same. Even those opposing the project are served notices, it is learnt. On the other hand, it is also being said that the authorities are hell bent upon going ahead with the project as per the Supreme Court directive, failing which they will have to face action.
