A surprise wedding

MANGALORE : This is no filmy style wedding but real lie wedding wherein a stranger comes foward to tie the nuptial knot to a young lady who is totally shaken after the groom is missing on the wedding day. Sabeena, daughter of painter Mohammad of Indiranagar in Haleyangady was supposed to marry Haneef, son of Habijan of Moodigere at the mass marriage ceremony that was held at the Haleema Sabji auditorium at Udupi recently. A dowry of Rs 30,000 had also been given to Haneef well ahead of the marriage.
But the bride’s party gathered information on the wedding day that the groom was not in town and that he was a cheat as he was an already married man with two wives. It even came to light that a woman of Haleyangady had brokered the marriage despite being aware of Haneef’s past history.
The family of Sabeena was totally lost . But there came a good samaritan in the form of Hameed, a youth of the locality who eked out a living selling fish. His heart ached for Sabeena and with due consent of his family and the girl’s side, tied the nuptial knot to Sabeena the same evening at the Haleyangady masjid. The youth’s act of giving a new lease of life to a young girl whose dreams were totally shattered, has been widely appreciated by one and all in the town.
