Links between Pandeshwar inspector, sandalwood smuggler?

By CT reporter
MANGALORE: A link between a sandalwood smuggler and the Pandeshwar inspector Venkatesh Prasanna has been exposed of late.
Recently, the anti-rowdy squad cops had been tipped off with regard to sandalwood smuggling in a bus operating between Mangalore and Goa. The Squad personnel waited near Mukka for the bus. But, when the bus did not stop as per their instruction, they forced it to stop and then thrashed the driver.
The case would have ended then and there. The Pandeshwar inspector Venkatesh Prasanna who was worried on noting that the anti-rowdy squad was after the sandalwood smuggler, tried to pass the buck on the squad by trying to prove that the anti-rowdy squad after being bribed by the smuggler had tried to hush up the case.
He even took the bus driver who was thrashed by the cops, before the IGP instead of taking him to the squad inspector Umesh Ganapathi Shet. It is said the Pandeshwar inspector by doing so, only wanted to tarnish the image of a honest officer. By doing so he has only washed the dirty linen of the police department in public.
When the anti-rowdy squad inspector Umesh Ganapathi Shet was contacted, he admitted that the operation was embarked upon following a tip off, but ruled out the chance of the anti-rowdy squad personnel accepting any bribe to hush up the case.
However, this case has aroused much curiosity in the police circles.
Now, the ball is in the IGP court and all eyes are on the IGP and his decision.
Prasanna eying Anti-Rowdy Squad
In the meantime, what has been gathered is that the Pandeshwar inspector had resorted to all this just with an eye on the District Anti-Rowdy Squad which is presently headed by Umesh Ganapathi Shet. To achieve this endeavour, he thought it fit to tarnish the image of Umesh Shet, considered to be an upright and honest officer.
