Shetty behind transfer of police inspectors!

By CT reporter
MANGALORE : It has come to light of late that the district minister Nagaraj Shetty was behind the recent transfers of the Panambur inspector Kodandarama and Mulki inspector Mathew Thomas. As if this is not suffice, the minister is also learnt to have seen to it that the two officers were not shown any other post thus depriving them of work, pay and other facilities. The reason for the punishment - the honesty of the two police officials.
Reports said the in-charge minister was spitting venom against the two officials who had not heeded to his words. Sources indicated that the two police officers had not bothered to yield to the minor demands of the minister with regard to booking of cases or freeing of any prisoner and were instead going by the rule book. The minister who could not tolerate this indiscipline (?) got the two officers transferred, reports say.
The background
It was the time of the zilla panchayat elections last year. The Congress candidate Krisha Amin was inside the polling booth. When some BJP men tried to get inside along with Nagaraj Shetty who was then just a legislator, they were prevented from going inside by the then Panambur inspector Kodandarama. This incident remained afresh in Shetty’s mind even when he became the minister. When there was change of guard in the state and Shetty became the district minister, he took the opportunity to teach Kodandarama a lesson. Krishna Palemar did object and even appealed to deputy CM to stall the transfer and so the transfer was cancelled. When Kodandarama had once personally met Shetty, the latter reminded the officer of the past incident. However, an undeterred Kodandarama defended himself saying there would have been a murder and the minister would have been booked had he not interfered. But, this only further infuriated Shetty who finally saw to it that Kodandrama was transferred.
When Mathew Thomas was the Mulki inspector, there had taken place a incident near the Pavanje bridge wherein an attempt was made by Hindu activists to torch a vehicle transporting cattle and also to attack the people inside.
When the inspector had spread a dragnet to nab the accused, Shetty reportedly came in his way.
But, Thomas arrested the accused and produced them before the court. Thus, even Thomas met the same fate as that of Kodandarama.
Now, it has remained no secret that the district in-charge was having his way in posting officials in locations best suited for him, as per the dictates of the Kalladka high command.
On the other hand, it has even been gathered that Shetty since long had been mounting pressure on the Ullal inspector Jayanth Shetty to book Ullal’s ‘in-charge’ legislator UT Khader. But Shetty too turned his back to Nagaraj saying he cannot book cases against anyone unnecessarily as particularly Khader striving to maintain peace.
Thus, Shetty’s interference in the police department is on unhindered much to the disgust of police officials.
