Panel led by Addl Secy to probe M’lore riots

By CT reporter
MANGALORE : The state government has issued an order entrusting the probe into the two deaths reported during the Mangalore riots to the CoD and the investigation of the violence to the state Additional Chief Secretary AK Agarwal.
The committee led by Agarwal has to file its report on the causes of the violence and those responsible for the same within the next 15 days.
In the meantime, chief minister has decided to go in for the wait and watch policy in the backdrop of the increasing demand from Congress, BJP and other parties for a judicial probe.
In case a judicial probe is ordered, than all those against whom allegations have been levelled will have to be subject to interrogation and even the district in-charge minister would come under this purview and in that case, the government is likely to face embarrassment.
It has been learnt that it was owing to this reason that the state government decided to order investigation by a committee led by the additional chief secretary.
