KDA chief’s directive let to wind?
MANGALORE : The directive of the State Kannada Development Authority chief Dr Siddalingaiah, during his recent visit to the district, in the presence of DC Maheshwar Rao to give top priority to Kannada while putting up nameboards of shops and business establishments, has virtually been let to the wind.
In fact, the KDA cbief had issued stern instructions to the officials of various departments and the DC to give first preference to Kannada. But, the directive was forgotten no sooner the KDA chief left.
The KDA chief during his visit had directed all shops and business establishments to have their nameboards in Kannada itself while other languages including English should be given next priority.
He had also warned that those failing to adhere to this instruction would be subject to severe penalty. The KDA chairman’s warning had then sent shivers down the spines of the officials with the KDA chief even asking the DC to keep an eye on Kannada implementation. It is now nearly two weeks since this order has been issued ; the nameboards are the same with no changes effected.
