K S Rao Road builders sidestep HC fiat
By CT reporter
MANGALORE : The High Court order to initiate action against the builders of a multi-storied construction on KS Rao Road in the city in place of the erstwhile Hotel Woodside in the city, has failed to yield any result with the city corporation not initiating nay action until now.
Though the builders, succumbing to pressure from different corners, had raised a protective wall atop the hill, still Dr T Jagadish, chairman of the local Apartment Owners’ Association and members Balakrishna Shetty, Geeta Pai and Dr Vinaya Poornima had filed a public interest litigation in the High Court.
The High Court which took up the case for hearing in its order dated 19-8-2006, had directed that the builders had to adhere to the consturction norms.
The High Court in its ruling had also stated that the city corporation had no reason to tolerate the violation of the rule and in case the corporation failed to iniaite action, they could also lodge a petition in the civil court.
In the meantime, the petitioners have said the city corporation has preferred to go against the HC directive and are now waiting for another order from the civil court.
