MANGALORE : The District Anti-Rowdy Squad chief Vinay Gaonkar and the Barke sub-inspector Pavan Kumar have been suspended from services recently.
The action followed a departmental probe against Gaonkar in the backdrop of a complaint lodged with the home minister himself by a certain Ronald Gilbert D’Souza who was illegally detained and tortured by Gaonkar on the charges of forging signature of Gurupur Jangama Mutt Swamiji.
Gilbert in his complaint stated that he was an ioncoent who was illegally detained by Gaonkar who fell prey to the lurings of some vested interests.
As per the minister’s directive, a departmental probe was ordered against Gaonkar, proving the charges against himfollowing which the officer has now been suspended. Gaonkar who was known as a tough and honest cop during the initial years of service, later began to face allegations of inaction with him reportedly handling cases merely sitting in the station. There were also complaints that he colluded with criminal elements and was also accused of being rash, arrogant and rude.
Amidst these complaints, the recent Ronald arrest case came up. Gaonkar had in fact invited the wrath of the IGP Satyanarayana Rao a month ago itself when the latter had taken the former to task. Now, he has been suspedned along with the Barke SI Pavan Kumar. The exact reason for the Barke SI’s suspension is not known.
Demand : In the meantime, advocate Dinesh Hegde Ulepadi while speaking to presspersons in the city recently, has demanded that the Bunder inspector Vinay Gaonkar be suspended from government service itself.
He even demanded registering of an FIR against Gaonkar and also action against those who had lodged false complaint against Ronald Gilbert D’Souza who had to undergo much mental agony and torture.
Ronald Gilbert who was also present at the press meet was just unable to control his emotions when he began explaining the incident. Finally, unable to speak, he walked out.
