Bldg newly constructed on pretext of renovation in Hampankatta

MANGALORE : It has been gathered that a new bulding has been raised in Hampankatta, the heart of the city by demolishing an earlier constrcution, after securing permission only for tbe renovation of the old building by the MCC.
A building in front of the old gate of the Wenlock Hospital in the city, having two shops, was sold to a certain Sheikh Ahmed Sharief in the year 2000.
The new owner who had applied for permission for renovation, has now demolished the construction and had raised a new building. Just to prove that it was renovation the front portion (wall) of the earlier building has been retained.
Though the Nagarika Hitharakshana Samithi had complained to the Mangalore city corporation in this regard and the Commissioner had convened a meeting then, the owner and his advocate had contended that it was just renovation refuting the complaint of the Samithi leader Hanumantha Kamath that the building was constructed newly and discretely.
Then the commissioner had assured a site inspection and had also promised to seek expert opinion on the issue with nothing much taking place until now.
