Fake Lokayukta case: No action against MCC officer

By CT reporter
MANGALORE : The failure of the district superintendent of police as well as the district Lokayukta to register cases against the MCC official who bribed the fake Lokaykta, has raised many a eyebrow. Though the corporation’s assistant town planning officer Manjunath had lodged a complaint with the police that he had paid Rs 12.5 lakh to the fake Lokayukta officials, the police have only arrested the imposters but not initiated any action against the MCC officer who dared to give a staggering amount as bribe.
Several including the Nagarika Hitarakshana Samithi president Hanumantha Kamath had lodged a comolaint questioning why no action against the MCC official who bribed the fake Lokayukta offiicals and thereby proved himself to be corrupt. As per the Anti-Corruption Act, both those who give as well as accept bribe are liable for punishment and on this ground even the police can file a chargesheet against the officer. But, the failure of the police department to do so , has only pinpointed towards the department’s contibution to the rising corruption, says Hanumanth Kamath of the Nagarika Hitharakshana Samithi.
