Chikungunya fears in city

MANGALORE : Chikungunya fears have pervaded the city too in the backdrop of several people suffering from Chikungunya like symptoms. However, the district health department and corporation health department sources say not even a single Chikungunya case has been reported from anywhere in the city.
In the meantime, the death of a young lady at Kasaba Bengre, who was reportedly suffering from Chikungunya has given rise to fresh fears.
It is learnt, the girl Shabana (17), daughtrer of one Kunhimonu recently died at a private hospital in Deralakatte. Though it is said she had contracted Chikungunya, it has not yet been confirmed.
It is also being said that hundreds of people in Bengre area are also suffering from Chikungunya lke symptoms, with some admitted to the Wenlock Hospital and other private hospitals. Reports now say the corporation health officials have visited the areas in Bengre which are reportedly affected by Chikungunya, and were enlightening the masses about the disease.
