Safety pins -eves’ new self-defence mechanism in city buses!

By CT reporter
MANGALORE : Women, particularly young ladies are subject to much harassment in city buses, particularly in the crowded buses during peak hours in mornings and evenings. The women have to endure a great deal of torture in the process and there are many who suffer silently. But, young ladies travelling on the route number 42 bus operating on the Talapdy-Mangalore route, have preferred to be up in arms against the harassment in city buses. They are using safety pins as a weapon to fight harassers.
Most of the buses on this route are jam packed almost during all the trips and some youth taking advantage of the situation were harasisng young ladies travelling in the buses,
Recently, the bus was not that full and many men were seen standing in the front portion of the bus. Even the directive of the conductor to move behind failed to yield result and suddenly there was a scream in the bus and when everyfffone turned towards the way from where the scream was heard, a young lady was seen slapping a youth. The bus stopped and the youth silently walked out without uttering a word.
Later, on enquiry, it came to light that the youth had harassed the young lady who had used the safty pin weapon making him scream.
This incident has turned to be an eye-opener for several young ladies subject to harassment in city buses and reports say several of them are now having safety pins handy in their purses, to use in case of such an emergency. It is now believed that this latest self-defence mechanism opted by the young ladies would definitely refrain youth from resorting to eve-teasing and harassing women in buses.
