MANGALORE : The National Highway Authorities have now assured to complete the repair works on the NH 17 and 48 by October end no sooner the neceessary equipment arrives.
Giving explanation for the inordinate delay in the highway repair, the officials of the Authority attributed the same to the delay in arrival of machinery and the incessant rains that lashed the region.
The repair works would be undertaken on the 37 km stretch of road from Mukka to BC Road and already the initial works have begun, the officials said adding the bitumen would have a longer lifespan if applied on a dry area.
The Authority sources while stating that the Authority was facing paucity of funds for the highway maintenance, added that the local administration which had failed to extend cooperation during the highway widening proposal last year, wasnow opposing the inordinate delay in the repair works, just as a part of a political ploy.
