Land grab bid by Dalit leader?

MANGALORE : A team of police officials including Panambur DySP Peetambar Heraje, Circle inspector Jayanth Shetty and SI AD Nagaraj which investigated into a case of a suspected land grab by a Dalit leader Lolaksha, has directed the victim in this case to lodge a civil suit.
This case is pertaining to the land worth crores of rupees belonging to an aged man named Taniya at Nadupadavu near Konaje, and the reported attempt to grab the same, by a Dalit leader named Lolaksha.
At a hearing in this case held recently in the presence of senior officials, as per the direction of the SP, Taniya revealed that as he owned the land he had the right to sell it and was selling it at his will.
However, another complainant Karunaker and others contended tha as per the 1967 Act, land sanctioned to the Dalits by the government could not be sold. He also stated that the land had been sanctioned to the beneficiary in the year 1969.
The Dalit leader who was also present during the hearing said there could be no objection to secure power of attorney of this government sanctioned land.
The DySP who took cognizance of all documents, came to the conclusion that the case was of civil nature and directed the complainants to lodge a petition in the court.
Earlier, Karunaker and others who were taking care of Taniya had complained to the Konaje station against Lolakssha charging him of land grab by planning to avail loans afer securing power of attorney of Taniya’s land.
When a complaint with the Konaje police did not yield any result,a complaint was made to the SP anf DC and as per the SP’s directive, the DySP led team had conducted the investigation.
