Chaos at Suzlon meet
From our Udupi office
UDUPI : A meeting of Suzlon evacuees held at Brahmagiri Lions Bhavan recently, to fix the value of the land acquired by the firm, ended in utter confusion and chaos failing to come to any definite conclusion. The meeting was jointly convened by Suzlon and the district administration.
Participants in the meeting made a unanimous demand that they are not ready to fix the land rate unless and until rehabilitation arrangements are made for the families letting their lands for the project.
The evacuees were furthermorre agitated when deputy commissioner Ponnuraju said no job assurance can be given to the families of evacuees. They took the Suzlon officer Aleen and the DC to task questioning how the company could go back on its words when it had promised jobs to the families of evaucees and termed this as nothing but a ploy to give jobs to outsiders.
The evacuees also raised strong objections to fix the land value on the basis of the denotification of the land 20 years ago. Even their demand to fix the land value at existing rates was turned down by the DC saying rules did not permit the same.
When the district minister VS Acharya present in the meeting said the project would be implemented after providing all information to the evacuees, the people said they did not have any faith in the minister who they said backed Nagarjuna against public interest.
The meeting in fact was held discretely with no intimation to pressmen about the same making clear the extent of transparency that would be maintained with regard to the proposed project.
Raghupathi Bhat, MLA of Udupi, Manorama Madhwaraj, Udupi MP, Katapady Shanker Poojari, Taluk Panchayat member and others attended the meeting.
