Chandrappa case: Court accepts chargesheet against mayor

MANGALORE : In an interesting development, the city JMFC court has accepted the chargesheet filed against city mayor Ashraf by the police in connection with the case of abusing the then MCC commissioner P Chandrappa who is now the MUDA commissioner, during an eviction drive near Nehru Maidan some time back.
The chargesheet was filed againt the mayor following the complaint lodged by Chandrappa alleging that Ashraf had abused him in the presence of revenue officer Mallayya.
The eviction drive had taken place on June 14 under the supervision of Mallayya when Ashraf who arrived at the spot rebuked the then commissioner for launching the drive without taking him into confidence. Two days later Chandrappa had filed the police complaint.
The police had later on sought the court permission to file an FIR and following the permission the chargesheet has been filed.The case has been filed as per IPC Section 504.
